About our awesome name

  • lens What is this? Quupe is a sharing economy community for neighbours to rent things to each other.
  • lens Why did you decide to build it? We realized that tons of people have great stuff sitting around in dark storage rooms for most of the year, and we want to get it out and into people’s hands who can use it.
  • lens What does the name mean? It’s short for “recoup,” as in “recoup your investment.”
  • lens How do you pronounce it? “Koop.”
  • lens So why is it spelled like that? We wanted something everyone would be able to easily pronounce and remember.
  • lens That was sarcasm, right? It was, unless you’re one of those rare people who pronounces it “koop” on the first try, in which case, hats off to you.
  • About Quupe safety and guarantee

  • lens Who are all these other people on your site? Can I trust them? They’re people just like you: They have a lot of stuff, or the desire to do new things, and they’re interested in the world-changing potential of the sharing economy movement. Or they just like getting access to cool things. As far as trust: we vet everyone who comes on the site. We confirm phone numbers, emails, social media, and in order to buy anything through the app, they must register a credit card through our payments-processing system. The cofounder of AirBNB, Joe Gebbia, had a good line about this: “The sharing economy is commerce with the promise of human connection.”
  • lens Is it safe to rent my stuff here? Absolutely! Quupe covers the lender with theft and damage insurance. Quupe also has a reliable reputation system to assist you in deciding weather to rent out you stuff to the borrower. We recomend both lenders and borrowers to inspect the item properly before entering the transaction. For more info, please get in touch.
  • lens How does quupe insurance work? We provide insurance for loss and damages up to $2500 for both, lenders and borrowers. Borrowers get covered for $250 for their first rental. With every subsequent rental the insurance cover gets higher in increments of $250. Which means the insurance cover on your 5th rental is $1500 and on your 9th rental, you have an insurance cover worth $2500. For lenders, the insurance cover starts at $1000. With each additional transaction the insurance cover increases by $500. Which means for your second rental, your insurance cover is $2000 and on your 3rd rental, your insurance cover is $2500.
  • About the money

  • lens How do payments work? Is my credit card safe? All our payments are processed through Stripe, so they’re secure and convenient, and everything goes through the app, so you don’t have to think about it or haggle.
  • lens I have a rental business. Can I list my things on Quupe? Yes! If you have a large number of items available, you may be eligible for discounted fees and assistance in getting your full inventory listed on the site. Contact Us, and let us know how we can help.
  • lens So, what does this cost? Listing items for rent is FREE! When a transaction is complete, we take a small fee (20%). Our payment processor (Stripe) also charges a fee of 2.9% plus 30¢ per transaction. For more details on Stripe charges, visit their pricing page.
  • lens How quick do I get paid? We deposit money to your bank account. I usually take 2 business days. We have a $10 limit for withdrawals. Once you earn $10, you can withdraw your money from your Quupe account. We use interc e transfer for all payments. Once you withdraw, a transfer will be received on your Quupe associated email. For withdrawals below $50 we charge a $2.00 CAD transfer fee. This $2 is the transaction fee which is paid to the bank. If you are withdrawing over $50, we cover the $2 fee because you are awesome.
  • About everything else

  • lens Is there going to be an app? Indeed. Android and iOS releases are in the works; look for them in 2017.
  • lens Can I rent an apartment / house / room on Quupe? No. There are plenty of great places to do that like AirBnB, Craigslist and Zillow.
  • lens Can I rent a car or truck on Quupe? Nope. Turo is a great app to rent vehicles from people nearby. In Vancouver, there are plenty car rental services such as car2go, modo and zip car.
  • lens How about my spaceship? Our insurance currently does not cover 'damages caused by an 'extra terrestrial entity'. Please write to Area 51 for more questions.

  • lens Does my stuff need to be new to be listed on Quupe? No, items do not need to be brand new, but they must be fully functional and preferably in good to great condition.
  • lens Do I have to deliver the item to someone when they rent it? When you list an item for rent, you will be asked if you will deliver the item, meet the renter at a neutral location or if the item is available for pick up. We highly encourage property owners to deliver items. Some people will only rent things if they are delivered. But its completely up to you!
